In addition to cultural activities and exercises, hobbies that involve interacting with people is said to be effective in suppressing atrophy of the prefrontal cortex according to research findings at the Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer (IDAC), Tohoku University.
\nThese hobbies can be as simple as games such as “go or shogi”, as individuals play against each other by thinking strategy and reading the reactions of the opponent which keeps the prefrontal area active. However, it is interesting to note that with the computer game version, the pre-frontal cortex was not active as compared to face-to-face game playing. This shows how important the interaction and relationship between people are.
\nResearch has also shown that excessive internet usage habits has the potential to harm the health of the brain. If an individual spends a lot of time on the internet everyday, the prefrontal cortex stops working, causing a decline in various functions such as memory and motivation. In this day and age of being able to watch movies and play games without going anywhere we need to all be careful not to overdo it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
