A study by Tohoku University’s Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer (IDAC) revealed that reading aloud activates about 70% of nerve cells in the cerebrum which enhances brain function and has an effect of preventing dementia. In addition, from this research, it was found that “fast reading” activates the brain more, and this discovery is gaining attention as an effective method for brain training.
The reason why “fast reading” is effective together with reading and memorizing letters, saying words aloud and listening to them with your own ears, is because the processing speed of the brain can further increase.
When “fast reading”, it is recommended to choose books or novels that have vocabulary that you normally do not use as it works the brain even further. Individuals in their 40’s and 50’s do not normally read aloud sentences and it may be difficult to read sentences with many unfamiliar vocabulary quickly; however, reading speed gets faster as it is repeated twice or three times. In order to experience the effect, it seems that it is best to do it at the same time.
