Brain atrophy changes depending on an individual’s lifestyle. When the brain shrinks, it immediately reminds you of dementia, but just because it shrinks, it does not mean that information processing speed, memory and concentration declines immediately.
According to a study by Tohoku University’s Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer (IDAC), it was found that there is a relationship between the degree of brain atrophy and various lifestyle habits such as hobbies. Among the many hobbies that individual’s can take part in, cultural activities such as reading books, drawing and going to museums were particularly effective in maintaining brain health and suppress prefrontal atrophy.
In addition, exercise habits have been found to be effective as well. Moving your body naturally leads to aerobic exercise, which has proven to be effective in preventing dementia, especially Alzheimer’s disease. When it gets cold, we don’t feel like going out, but it is best to still actively engage in cultural activities and exercises.
